Tigers and Temples

This trip brings you life-enhancing moments when you encounter for the first time one of the world's endangered species; The Tiger. Discover its natural habitat along with the opportunity to relive the history and chivalry of the Forts & Palaces of the Maharajas, the temples of Khajuraho, the cultural contrasts of Old & New Delhi and the most famous of all - the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Day 1 - Arrive in Delhi

 

Arrive in the Indian capital by international flight. Overnight in Delhi.


Day 2 - Delhi

 

Today begin your journey exploring Delhi - India's historical capital and one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, whose character and culture was influenced by a wave of invasions since ancient times. We will start with a guided tour of New Delhi with its stately buildings of the British Era designed by Sir Lutyens, the Humayun's Tomb and the towering minarets of Qutab Minar of the Mughal period. 

After a short break for lunch at one of the trendy restaurants opposite the Qutab Minar, we will continue to Old Delhi. A guided tour of this historic city including the Jamma Masjid - the largest mosque in Asia, the Red Fort, and a cycle rickshaw ride through the bustling streets of Chandni Chowk. 


Day 3 - Delhi to Pench

 

In the morning, transfer from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Nagpur. You will be met by a local representative on arrival and be escorted to Pench Tiger Reserve in a private vehicle. The drive is approximately 100 km and will last about 2.5 hours. 

Pench Tiger Reserve - nestling the lower southern reaches of the Satpura hills, is named after the Pench River which flows from north to south through the park. The park was included under the umbrella of the "Project Tiger" as the 19th Project Tiger Reserve in 1992. With a total of 758 sq. km, criss-crossed by a number of seasonal streams, dotted with water pools and a reservoir, Pench Tiger Reserve is rich in both flaura and fauna.

Day 4 - Pench to Kanha National Park

 

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in Pench. Proceed for a game safari into Pench Tiger Reserve. Go on a tiger show at the back of an elephant (subject to forest officials organizing one on that day, or else experience the same at Kanha or Bandhavgarh). Post lunch, drive to Kanha National Park in a private vehicle. The drive is approximately 200 km and will last about 4 hours. 

Kanha National Park - One of the most picturesque parks in Asia, it is known for being the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's unforgettable classic "Jungle Book". It stretches over 940 sq. km with the famous Banjar Valley & Hallon Valley forming its western and eastern halves. 

Overnight in Kanha. 


Day 5 - Kanha

 

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then proceed to a game safari in the national park. 

Post lunch, embark on another game safari in the national park.  Overnight at hotel in Kanha. 


Day 6 - Kanha to Bandhavgarh National Park

 

After breakfast at your hotel in Kanha, begin your drive to Bandhavgarh National Park. This drive is approximately 250 km and will last about 6 hours. 

Bandhavgarh National Park - This park has the highest known density of tiger population in India. Prior to becoming a National park, the forest of Bandhavgarh had long been maintained as a Shikargah or a game preserve of the Maharajahs of Rewa. It was declared a tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1993.

Day 7 - Bandhavgarh

 

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to a game safari in the national park. 

In the afternoon, proceed for a second game safari in the national park.

Day 8 - Bandhavgarh to Khajuraho

 

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in Bandhavgarh. Post breakfast, proceed to Khajuraho by private vehicle. 

Khajuraho - is also called the land of the Moon God as it oozes with passion, eroticism, dance & music and other finesses of creative arts depicted in sculpture and images of its temples. The temples of Khajuraho are famous for the eroticism etched on its walls in the form of sculptures. These 9th to 12th century temples are evidence of the architectural genius during the times of Chandela dynasty.

After checking in at your hotel, in the evening enjoy a Sound & Light show in the complex of the western group of temples. In this 50-minute spectacle, Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian star narrates the story of Khajuraho in his mesmerizing voice. He relays the life and times of the great Chandela kings and traces the story of these unique temples from the 10th Century to the present day.


Day  9 - Khajuraho to Jhansi to Agra

 

Today, you will drive from Khajuraho to Jhansi. The drive is approximately 190 km and will take 4.5 hours. 

In the morning, visit the famous western and eastern group of temples – a World Heritage Site.

In the afternoon, transfer by private vehicle to Jhansi railway station to board train to Agra departing at 17:56 hrs.

Arrive at Agra railway station at 20:25 hrs and transfer to your hotel. 

Agra - located on the right bank of the river Yamuna, it boasts a glorious past created by Mughal warriors as skilled in art and architecture as they were on the battlefield. For the lover of art and to the traveller seeking the wonders of India, Agra will not disappoint.

Overnight in Agra. 


Day 10 - Agra & Delhi

 

Early in the morning, set out to visit the legendary Taj Mahal at sunrise. A tribute from an emperor to his departed wife, the result and the experience are ethereal. Twenty two years in the making (1631-1653), it has been likened to “a poem, a vision, a wonder, a dream” and an earthly replica of paradise.

Return to your hotel for breakfast and then check out in the late morning. 

Before leaving for Delhi, visit the Red Fort of Agra. Strategically situated along a bend on the Yamuna River, it was built by three generations of Mughal emperors from the 16th century onwards. It synthesizes stern military fortifications with delicate interior detail.

Drive to Delhi and on arrival check into a hotel at aerocity for either a day-use to rest, or an overnight room depending on the timing of your flight back home.

Transfer to airport for your international flight back home.
