Back to Where can we go ?

India was the first country outside of Great Britain to take up the game of golf. The Royal Calcutta Golf Club, established in 1829, is the oldest golf club in India and the first outside Great Britain. With the growing influence of the British in the Indian empire, the eighteenth century saw a mushrooming of new golf clubs across India.   The Bangalore Golf Club was established in 1876 and the Shillong Golf Club golf course in 1886. In fact Golf had already been played in India for 59 years before the first major course was opened in the USA and Europe in 1888. By the end of the 19th century, India already had a dozen golf clubs.

What makes golfing in India exciting is the diversity of its courses.  There are golf courses in the mountains, plains, deserts and at beach resorts. Most of India's courses are well connected by road, rail and air, and have excellent accommodation facilities.

Golfing in India has come a long way since in beginnings in the early nineteenth century and a large number of Indian players now compete on the international circuit, including the famous Jeev Milkha Singh.  Golf enthusiasts continue to grow in number and new courses are added almost every year.

Day 08 – From Jaipur - Gurgaon - Delhi
Morning drive to Gurgaon (outskirts of Delhi)
Lunch followed by a round of golf. The Classic Golf Resort is a signature course of the great Jack ‘Golden Bear’ Nicklaus. The resort covers a 3,000-acre expanse, at the foothills of the picturesque Aravali.  The fusion of international experience with Indian expertise and the constant adherence to quality standards make the Classic Golf Resort a world-class golf course.
The CGR comprises of two courses – an 18-hole Championship Course and a 9-hole canyon course. The championship course plays to 7114 yards from the back tees. The par threes are particularly taxing with the eleventh hole a 224-yard monster with a bunker in front and out of bounds on the left. The course puts up all resistance right down to the 18th hole. The longest hole is the par 5 18th hole that is 580 yards long. The shortest is the par-3 fifth at 170 yards. The fifth makes up for its lack of length by possessing a shallow, undulating and deceptive green that can baffle any golfer. The amphitheatre-like green adds to the challenge. The par 5 14th is also an interesting hole with as many as eight bunkers coming in play.

OR

Golden Greens Golf & Country Club
This 18-hole par 72, 7100 yards championship course is replete with strategically placed bunkers on meandering fairways which look like olive green crumpled blankets. The contrasting natural scrub changes colour with the seasons just as the surrounding Aravali Hills.  The impression while playing this course will not be that of a golf course having being laid there but that of the fairways having been carved through natural meandering desert dunes. The undulating greens nestled in the mounded areas provide a different challenge and experience every time you hit one. There are dramatic elevation changes and still they look totally natural. Pot bunkers, subtle contouring, gentle swirls, deceptive grassy hollows make perceptions tricky and judging distances extremely challenging. This championship course tests the skills of the most advanced golfer. It seeks not only length but finesse as well. The course demands a large repertoire of shot-making ability and yet provides equal pleasure and challenge to golfers of all skill levels.
